Centamin Egypt Limited – New Board Member

Centamin Egypt Limited today announced the appointment of Australia’s former Ambassador to Egypt, Professor Graeme Robert Tangye Bowker, as an independent non-executive Director to the Board, effective immediately.

Professor Bowker, 58, retired from the Australian Foreign Service in June 2008 after a 37 year career specialising in Middle Eastern issues. He was Australian Ambassador to Egypt from 2005 until 2008, and Ambassador to Jordan from 1989 to 1992. In addition to postings to Syria from 1979 to 1981 and Saudi Arabia from 1974 to 1976, Professor Bowker was accredited from Cairo as non-resident Ambassador to Libya, Sudan, Syria and Tunisia. Prior to this he was Deputy Director of Studies at the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies at the Australian Defence College, Canberra, while on secondment from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (“DFAT”).

Professor Bowker has a PhD from the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies, Australian National University 2001, a MA from the Centre for Middle East and Central Asian Studies, Australian National University 1995, a BA (Hons) Indonesian and Malayan Studies and Political Science, Melbourne University 1970 and completed an RAF Arabic course, Beaconsfield, UK 1988.

As Centamin moves the Sukari Project towards the production phase, Professor Bowker’s experience and knowledge of North Africa and the Middle East should prove to be invaluable to the Company.
