Bateman Engineering (BATE)

Bateman Engineering (BATE), Netherlands-based mining construction company has won a £36m contract to build the sulphuric acid facilities at the Ambatovy nickel project in Madagascar. The contract includes construction of two 2,750-tonnes-a-day sulphur burning acid plants and a shared sulphur melting and storage area. The first plant will be completed by September 2009, while the second one will be ready by December 2009.

“This is particularly pleasing as this contract provides us with a state-of-the-art reference plant for our re-entry into this significant utility market” said Chief Executive Eddie du Rand. In August 2007, Bateman won a £100m contract for the engineering and procurement phase of the project, which is 40% owned and operated by Sherritt International Corp S.TO.
